OUR HISTORY
Divine Inheritance has a 120 year, multigenerational history in SE Asia. We have chosen harvest fields that require creative solutions from heaven. We exist and prosper today because of the sacrifice and prayers of those in our family who heard God’s voice and followed.
Starting with William Marcus Young in 1887, the Young family has a history of service and ministry in many countries within the SE Asia region. Built on this historic foundation, DI has been actively building the kingdom in tough places since 1994.
A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE YOUNG FAMILY
William Marcus Young, received his call while plowing in the fields. We don’t know too much about it, but his choice has certainly positively impacted many people. In 1887 in obedience to the call of God, he began the long ocean voyage to Burma. Nearly 20 years later, two people movements ensued and many thousands of people became followers of Jesus because of this man’s pioneering and prayer filled life.
WM Young’s sons’ were raised under the watchful eye of Dell, his courageous bride, and grew up in the remote jungles and learned many of the languages and customs of the area. Harold, the eldest son became a statesman with much productive influence in Northern Thailand. He also was a great naturalist and started a zoo that is well known and still running in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Marcus Vincent, WM Young's second son, continued in the traditional missions vein in Burma and China. He worked (along with his lovely wife Vera) as scripture translator, creating several ethnic orthographies and producing bibles and hymnals as well as being an avid evangelist working bravely in dangerous territory. There are many stories of angelic protection in his work. Where we are willing to take risks of obedience, there the testimony of the Lord shines!
Dr. Philip Young, WM Young's grandson, was a medical missionary in the Philippine Islands. He now resides with his wife, Ruth at the base where Divine Inheritance maintains a foundation for children in Thailand. Together they work among the ethnic hills-men of the region fulfilling their life dream and call from God.
Marcus Joseph Young is William Marcus's great grandson. Marcus and his wife Alyxius officially launched Divine Inheritance on January 15 1994, but it was built upon many generations of experience and labors of the previous generations. It exists because of the Faith and prayers of those who went before and paid a price to plant their feet upon the land of promise even as our spiritual father, Abraham did so many years ago.
The story of what God is doing is not over. As you take the time to peruse our site you will see the signs, that God is eternally good and is writing new pages of history through his servants in the far reaches of the earth.
